PCB (circuit boards) Market in Asia - 60% of the world's PCB fabrication is produced in the uppermost manufacturing bases - Taiwan and China

PCB research and Markets found that the market for flex and flex-rigid PCB (printed circuits) for all sectors has increased from $4 billion in 2001 to more than $8 billion in 2007, and is forecast to be greater than $11 billion by 2013. The higher-value segment–medical, military and aerospace–accounts for one-fifth of this growth. Asia in total will account for nearly 90% of worldwide PCB fabrication by 2013.

Asia accounts for almost 3/4 of the entire world market - with 36.25 billion U.S. Dollar. The biggest share goes to Southeast Asia (including Taiwan and China) with 27.25 billion U.S. dollars and Japan with 9 billion U.S. Dollars.

Japan majors in high-end products like IC boards and flexible circuit board, and Korea in IC boards, memory modules and mobile phone PCB fabrication manufacturing. In recent years, Taiwan has made rapid progress in IC boards and the overall production value of IC boards has surpassed South Korea. Taiwan also acts one of the world's largest mobile phone board producing area, sharing over 60% of the global market. In China, there are 1200 plus PCB Circuit Board enterprises, most of which are engaged in single-sided and multilayer circuit board with low technology content as well as downstream products usually including computer motherboards and inferior consumable electronics.

IC board, as a capital intensive investment, covers semiconductor packaging industry and circuit board industry, requiring manufacturers to own technologies in the two fields. So IC board has the highest threshold, yet with the largest profit. All of the top PCB circuit board manufacturers show great interest in IC boards, such as the world largest PCB enterprise - IBIDEN, the world second largest circuit board enterprise - Shinko Electric, Taiwan-based largest printed circuits enterprise - Nanya PCB and Taiwan's second-largest PCB Circuit Board enterprise - World Wiser Electronics.

For special fields, including mobile phone boards, photoelectric boards, laptop computer circuit boards and memory modules, Taiwan is the world's largest supplying region in mobile phone boards, and over 65% of the world's mobile phone boards come from Taiwan.

As for auto electronics PCB circuit board market, the entry threshold is even higher and the market has maintained its layout for many years. Taiwan printed circuit board manufacturers expect strong demand from the smartphone market in 2011, as High Tech Computer (HTC), Research In Motion (RIM), Palm and Apple will launch new models in the second quarter, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Despite an expected decline in printed circuits production value, PCB Circuit Board makers expect notebook and smartphone applications to be growth drivers in 2011.
